Adding a second SID to your 64 & 128 is as simple as it can be, insert your Commodore 6581 SID (not included) into the empty socket and plug into your Commodore 64. The interface works with any software which access between the $DE00 to $DFE0 address range (the address can be changed by moving a few simple DIP switches). Sized to fit standard Commodore 64/128 case shells (such as those sold by Protovision or Vesalia Online). Commodore 6581 SID is not included.

"The designer of the SID Symphony II, Vanessa Ezekowitz, was kind enough to furnish me with circuit diagrams of her SID expansions. The screenshots of Commodore OS Vision show the beauty of the OS, modern in design, internet friendly, with the ability to program your own Commodore games, play classic games like Tron, Space Invaders, design graphics, edit movies, create music or program in BASIC, Amiga, Java, C/C++, PHP, Perl, VB.NET, C#, Python, Linux, HTML and much much more.

Windows 8 step aside. Android move over. iOS take notice. The Legend is back, and with over 17 million units sold in the 1980s, Commodore is the best-selling personal computer of all time.

According to Commodore USA:

"Commodore OS Vision is a 64-bit Linux distribution, based on Linux Mint, created for Commodore enthusiasts purchasing Commodore USA hardware, such as Commodore 64, VIC series and the upcoming high-performance line of Amiga computers. These are essentially restore disks for pre-installed Commodore systems. Commodore OS Vision uses the classic GNOME 2 interface and features extensive Compiz/Emerald desktop effects. It includes dozens of games of all genres (FPS, Racing, Retro etc), the Firefox and Chromium web browsers, LibreOffice, Scribus, GIMP, Blender, OpenShot and Cinellera, advanced software development tools and languages, sound editing through Ardour and Audacity, and music composition programs such as the Linux MultiMedia Studio. It has a classic Commodore slant with a selection of applications reminiscent of their classic Amiga counterparts."

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 181px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U_LdYaDztlU/Tr7DVPWCiLI/AAAAAAAAByk/lGyQihpzymk/s320/Screenshot.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5674187350197045426" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 258px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-37fq4WIEPQY/Tr7H9rnoIBI/AAAAAAAABzI/Cjb-loFhvhM/s320/Screenshot-10.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5674192443028283410" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gV1lCLqNJe0/Tr7EMHcWviI/AAAAAAAAByw/bEYI8ZXTw9c/s320/Screenshot-4.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5674188292968857122" />

Commodore OS Vision Disc 2

Yesterday we reported that Commodore USA released their new Commodore OS Vision. Here is the web page that has the Torrent Link:

http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_OS_Vision_Download.aspx

While anyone can download/use, it has only been tested for the Commodore VIC and C64x product line(s).

The software included with OS Vision is E-mail and Chat, photos, office applications, internet, music and video, graphics, movie editing, games, programming (allowing you to program in BASIC, Java, C/C++, PHP, Perl, VB.NET, C#, Python and HTML) and much more.

Commodore USA states that:

Commodore OS Vision is a community driven Linux distribution for Commodore enthusiasts that is designed to unleash your creative potential and help you enjoy your computing experience to the fullest. Commodore computers were well known for their unique operating environments, so we seek to do the same, by providing a distinctive, attractive, advanced and fun operating system experience. Its look is inspired by the Commodore 64 and original Commodore Amiga Workbench user environments but with a modern spin, which includes many slick graphical effects which showcase the capabilities of our new Commodore machines.

The Commodore OS Vision project was created as an operating system option for Commodore enthusiasts purchasing Commodore USA computers. It is but the first step on the path to creating the ultimate Commodore experience for our customers. This retro-futuristic OS experience takes design cues in its appearance from classic Commodore and Amiga operating systems and evolves them further to create a distinctive and modern 21st century look which adds personality to our new Commodore machines. The selection of software included also has a retro slant which would be familiar to many Commodore fans, making them feel at home. Its design is modeled against the popular “Guitar Hero” series, geared toward the ability to play along to your favorite C64 music on the guitar. Correctly played notes increase your score and applause meter, while incorrectly played notes decrease your applause meter. If the crowd stops applauding, you’re out! Their programming on the station six nights a week covering material from industrial to progressive, hip-hop to tech house.

From the beginnings of house music in Chicago, WNUR has brought to the airwaves a side of dance music that doesn't get exposure elsewhere on the dial, in the clubs, or even in the party scene. While WBMX's Hotmix 5 were playing the latest local cuts during house music's big explosion, WNUR's role was playing the imports. Such legendary DJs as Derrick Carter and Mark Farina held shows on WNUR in the late 80s/early 90s. In the mid 90s, DJ Snuggles' Strictly Jungle show gained national recognition for being the first weekly drum 'n bass show in the country. Other artists on 89.3 include: Aux 88, Shaka 23, Josh Werner, TRS-80, DJ T-1000, Frankie Vega, Derek Fisher, Mike Wade and more. Their present mission is to provide Chicago and the world with a source of consistently good underground electronic/dance music in all its variety, both new and old, whether local or imported.

Jan Harries New Album

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rWHqyWSncCg/SICtcf1W0XI/AAAAAAAABAY/gCDRoMtNNGs/s320/soundmonitor.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224366272843010418" />

Since 1985, Jan Harries has been producing innovative music on the Commodore 64 and Amiga 500 computers. Well this just might be the next new wave of the new wave genre, no pun intended. The Chip Wave genre creates an exciting blend of music with the sounds of 80s New Wave, electro wave, Italo Hi-nrg, post-no wave punk, Chicago acid house (Phuture/Adonis), Italo Disco (Giorgio Moroder), techno (Detroit, Dresden and Berlin), Die Musik der Futurismus, Die russische Avantgarde, Post Avante Garde-ism, Die Avantgarde der ElectroRock-Musik) and electronica. Chicago musician Nico Demonte who has introduced the genre by using the Commodore 64, Atari, Amiga 500, TRS-80, emulation, magnetic tapes, vintage computers, drum machines like the Simmons and 808/909, and synthesizers (Moog, Korg). For Aart, The sheer speed of 6510 over Basic caused demo writers of music and graphics to write in machine code. Part of the fun of getting Compute! back in the day were the BASIC programs that I typed in to create music, video and computer games. I am totally impressed, and am currently running my own copy on Digital Performer. The group states that the: "Magical 8bit Plug is a plug-in style software-synthesizer for producing primitive electronic sounds like the old 8bit game consoles. In Macintosh environment, it runs with AU (Audio Units)-supporting applications: ex. Logic, Digital Performer, Garageband. In Windows environment it runs with VSTi supporting applications: ex. Cubase. Most of the software/hardware synthesizers include the most primitive waveform: square wave and pulse wave. But almost none of them include the pseudo-triangle or the low-resolution noise that will most characterize the 8bit sound's unique taste.
